WordPress is a flexible CMS that newsbies can use to start their first blogs. The steps for creating a professional blog is easy and even beginners can learn it in a few minutes. The following are 8 steps on how to create a professional WordPress blog.
1. Register a Domain Name and Web Hosting
To create a blog, you must first register for a domain name. The domain name must be short and easy to remember. If the domain is available, you can proceed to register it on GoDaddy. You should select the basic plan which includes hosting for 1 website and 10 GB storage. Paying for the hosting fee in advance at least 1 or more can help you to save money.
2. Setup WordPress
From your GoDaddy dashboard, you can set up WordPress by clicking on the Managed WordPress button. You must enter the username and password when prompted. It only take a minute to install WordPress. When installation is completed, you can click on Get Started to login into the dashboard.
3. Change WordPress Theme
Upon logging in, the first thing to do is to change the theme. You must select Appearance and click on Add New to select a free theme. If you want to upload your own theme, you can click on Add New Theme> Upload Theme to upload the theme in zip format.
4. Create a New Post
Once you have activated the template, you can select New on top and choose the Posts option to add a new post. It will take you to the Add New Posts page where you can compose a new post, add a title, picture, audio, and video. When you are ready to publish the post, you can click on the Publish button. If you click on the View Post button, it will take you to the actual post URL.
5. Change Blog Title
When you first setup a new blog, you must change the blog title. The blog title can be changed by clicking on the Customize link on top. It will take you to the theme customization page where you are supposed to select Site Identity and type in a new name for your blog.
6. Add an About Me Section
After you rename the blog, you can install Meks Smart Author widget to add an about me section. Once the plugin is activated, you can drag it to the sidebar and type About Me in the title field. If you refresh the page, you should be able to see the about me section on the homepage and other posts.
7. Add Followers Social Media Buttons
Next, you must install Meks Smart Social plugin to add a social media follower feature on the site. You must go to the widget area and add the Meks Smart to the side bar. Then, you must choose your social media icon and Emyer the URL of the social media profile.
8. Add a Read More Section
If you want your blog to automatically load related posts, you can add the Shamrock Posts widget. The widget should be named Read More. You can refresh your blog once more to see if the Read More section appears correctly in the right side bar.
